Bitter Side

“The inspiration for this song came while I was in the checkout line at Woodman’s. I saw this obviously single guy with nothing in his cart except soda, chips, frozen pizza and TV dinners. I just made up the details of this story from there. It is quite liberating to write in someone else’s persona. It allows me to express that which is worst in me and lets someone else take the blame for it. “

– From the liner notes of Angels, Bones & Clocks

I sleep when I want to.
Wake up when the sun is high.
Eat when I’m hungry.
Drink when I’m dry and I
Never cry when I never miss you.
And I never, never wonder why.

I don’t love you,
I don’t need you.
I don’t want you anymore.

I’m good with the groceries –
It’s a less than 20 items affair.
I’m in tune with the vacuum,
And he’s concerned with wear and tear.
And I never care when I never see you.
And I never, never wonder where.

repeat chorus

I talk with the neighbors,
Try to bury my bitter side.
I never did do that for you.
I’m sure they heard that screamin’ outside.
What joy I knew walked out with you.
I live alone here with my pride. My pride.

Sayin’, I don’t love you.
Sayin’, I don’t need you.
Sayin’, I don’t want you.
Sayin’, I don’t love you anymore.
